CHIPS Borehole Maintenance Project

Recently purchased borehole maintenance equipment is now being put to use to enable Karimojong and Iteso communities in the vicinity of Namendera and Okoboi to maintain and repair their boreholes.

In the past, half of the boreholes in the area have often been non-operational at any one time due to a lack of maintenance, spare parts and knowledge of borehole repair. This means that thousands of people in the area often have to rely on dirty surface water sources.

CHIPS is responding by training local people in the necessary skills, providing a local stock of spare parts and providing the community with the tools they need which will be owned and managed by community committees.

CHIPS is very grateful for a generous donation by Wilmslow Wells which made this project possible.
