New CHIPS Logo

The new logo includes a symbol designed to capture something of the reality of CHIPS’ work: to convey peace, life and hope growing within the harsh reality of violence and suffering.

The green leaf is not overcome as it breaks through the barbed wire symbolising the breaking of the cycle of violence. The ring of barbed wire is reminiscent of the crown of thorns reminding us of the identification of God with mankind, his making peace through Jesus, and of the call to be prepared to share in his suffering for the sake of his Kingdom of peace and justice.

Although you'd be forgiven for thinking the greenery is an olive branch, the leaves are actually laurel and because of its connection with the victor's crown it has a sense of overcoming and of triumph in adversity. In the Christian sect of ancient Rome, laurel came to represent the triumph of humanity as represented by the Son of Man. Also, laurel never wilts, so it has traditionally symbolised eternity.

Many thanks to Joe Baker of Peace Church, Birmingham, for coming up with the design for us.
