We are really sad to be sharing the news that only last week (9/6/15), there was a stabbing on Loughborough Road in Brixton. This is a stark reminder of the need for reconciliation between groups in the area.
The police have said that they suspect the incident to be gang related - as a group of youths were seen running back onto Angell Town Esatate. Later that day there was another report of fighting on Angell Town and the police responded with considerable numbers as they assumed it was a retaliation from the earlier incident. Paul, CHIPS Director, was present at the time of the fight and was able to engage the police to find out what was going on. He thought that the young people generally conducted themselves very well - many being calm and polite. The issue was resolved quickly as this 'fight' only turned out to be a group of boys play fighting. However, it shows how high tentions are in the area presently.
Please keep praying for the Brixton area as a whole and for all those wrapped up in issues of gang violence. Please also pray for all parties involved in the stabbing and that peace can be found across these divides.
