Although CHIPS’ work is currently focussed in Uganda, over the past 40 years it has been active in many other parts of the world. The following is a brief summary of some of the situations in which CHIPS has worked for peace.
England
Involved with the West Indian community in Brixton through supporting the ‘Melting Pot’ (1971-75) in dressmaking workshops, youth club/training workshops and hostels. Supported the GRACE (Get Relief, Advice, Counselling and Encouragement) community project in North Tottenham during the 1980’s. CHIPS formed Christian Industrial Enterprises Ltd (CIEL) seeking creative solutions in the fight against unemployment (1974-84) and also contributed to the setting up of Traidcraft and Christian Engineers in Development (CED).

CHIPS set up a ‘household for peace’ in a troubled neighbourhood of Belfast.

Philippines
Work in the north of the country (1974-78) was mainly agricultural and helped build bridges across traditional divides. Work continued further south within the Muslim/ Christian conflict until 1993 supporting fishing projects, water supplies and vegetable growers

Cyprus (1966-72)
Where CHIPS began. Tending Turkish Cypriot citrus groves in Greek Cypriot areas and vice versa. Resettlement of abandoned villages. Resulted in an open village without soldiers not considered possible at the time.

India (1980s)
CHIPS focussed on an employment and production project in a very poor suburb of Bangalore.

Uganda (1991-present)
Working for reconciliation between the Iteso and Karimojong tribes in NE Uganda. A team made up of people from both tribes live together in the border area and work in water resources, agricultural, veterinary and community development. They encourage resettlement in the border area, cross border co-operation, trade and friendship.
